A2 shut after lorries crash with Ford Fiesta at Harbledown

The driver of a Ford Fiesta suffered chest, leg and facial injuries after his car collided with two lorries on the A2 at Harbledown this morning.

It happened near the A2050 shortly after 8.30am on the coastbound carriageway and the Fiesta is said to have burst into flames.

The A2 was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident and for the Kent Air Ambulance to land.

It happened in lane one of the carriageway and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the injured driver from the Fiesta.

He was taken by land ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The London-bound carriageway remained partially closed for several hours to allow recovery and clean-up work, but was fully open by 2pm.
