Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby cancels Christmas sermon at Cathedral - now confirmed to have pneumonia

The Archbishop of Canterbury is suffering from pneumonia, it's been revealed.

The announcement comes a day after Justin Welby cancelled his Christmas sermon at Canterbury Cathedral today due to "a bad cold".

A spokesman for the Archbishop said yesterday: "The Most Revd Justin Welby is suffering from a severe cold and will, with great regret, no longer be preaching the sermon at Canterbury Cathedral this morning."

Instead the Dean of Canterbury, the Very Revd Robert Willis, delivered a homily.

Now, Lambeth Palace has confirmed the "bad cold" is, in fact, pneumonia.

The text of the Archbishop’s sermon was published as a Christmas message on www.archbishopofcanterbury.org.
