A man killed after being hit by a train in Canterbury has been named.

He was William Noble, 44, of Crownfield Road, Ashford.

An inquest heard that Mr Noble died on the railway line at Whitehall Bridge Road, Canterbury, on Monday, May 18.

Coroner’s officer David Miller told the hearing that Mr Noble was confirmed dead at the scene from at 12.15am that day and he was identified through fingerprints.

The body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate for a post mortem examination.

The incident had been reported to police at 11.49am on May 18 and the train involved was the 11.04am Margate to London Charing Cross service.

British Transport Police launched an investigation and coroner Rebecca Cobb adjourned the inquest, which was held at Broadstairs, for a date to be fixed.
