Child hit by car in Littlebourne Road, Canterbury

A child has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Canterbury.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene on the A257 Littlebourne Road.

The road was partially blocked near Bekesbourne Lane, near St Martin's Hospital, until around 10am.

There were long tailbacks, but congestion has since cleared.

A police spokesman said earlier: "Kent Police was called to a collision between a car and a pedestrian at 8.28am on Thursday 26 April.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service was also called and paramedics are currently assessing the pedestrian, a child, at the scene.

"Officers are also at the scene and there may be some delays in the area.

"The child’s next of kin is aware."

An ambulance service spokesman added: "We were called at approximately 8.20am this morning to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

"Ambulance crews in a car and an ambulance attended the scene.

"The pedestrian was assessed and treated for injuries including arm and leg injuries before being taken to William Harvey Hospital."
