A2 closed after driver allegedly flees blazing car following crash near Canterbury

A man who allegedly fled the scene of a crash on the A2 near Canterbury which left a car on fire and a van on its side was arrested shortly after, say police.

It happened on the London-bound carriageway at Harbledown shortly before 10pm yesterday when a yellow Vauxhall Astra convertible was reported to have collided with a van.

Emergency services arrived to find the Astra ablaze and the van on its side and the road was closed for several hours while they dealt with the incident.

Firefighters tackled the burning car but driver of the Astra is said to have run off. He was found by officers soon after and arrested.

He was taken to hospital for a check over and has now been bailed pending further inquiries.
