Her car smashed through railings and a village notice board before crashing into a wall 30 yards away in Tyler Hill Road. The 2ft brick wall was almost completely destroyed by the force of the impact.

Two police cars and an ambulance attended the scene, but neither the driver nor her passenger were hurt.

Villager Godfrey King, 85, of Blean Common, said: "Considerable disruption at the junction occurred for some while before the area was cleared and the vehicle taken away by a recovery vehicle.

"The police were letting people through so the road wasn't shut, but it was very chaotic. It's just very lucky that no one was hurt."

Police confirmed there were no injuries and said no one was arrested, but admitted they do not know how the accident happened.
