Pedestrian suffered bruising after being knocked down in North Lane, Canterbury

Police are looking for a driver who drove off after knocking down a pedestrian at a busy junction in Canterbury city centre.

Felicia Rose, 22, suffered bruising after being hit by a Renault Espace in North Lane.

She was walking between stationary vehicles near the junction with St Dunstan's Street while cars queued at a pelican crossing further down the road.

Safety railings are due to be re-instated at the junction of North Lane and St Dunstan's Street.

But when the lights turned from red to green, the traffic began to move off as Miss Rose was still in the middle of the road.

It happened shortly before 6pm on Friday, August 29 and Miss Rose claims the driver hurled abuse at her before driving off.

Police say there were numerous witnesses to the incident and are now appealing for information about the white Renault Espace and its male driver.

There have been calls to re-instate safety railings around the junction to direct pedestrians to use the crossing a few yards away.

Kent County Council say the work will begin soon as part of other traffic safety measures in the area, including a 20mph limit.

Shortly after the incident, Miss Rose told the Kentish Gazette: "I was already halfway across the road before the car even got there.

"Then it sped around the roundabout and came to an abrupt stop, leaving about six inches between it and the car in front.

"I carried on walking in front of his car then the lights must have turned green because the traffic started moving and he accelerated forward with me still clearly in front of him."

Miss Rose says that as she got up from the ground the driver shouted abuse at her through his car window.
