Burger King blaze in St George's Street, Canterbury, put out by firefighters

A city centre fast food restaurant was evacuated this afternoon when fire broke out in the kitchen.

Three fire crews were called to Burger King in St George's Street shortly after 2pm after the alarm was raised.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went in to fight the fire, which was put out shortly before 2.30pm.

But the three-storey building was heavily smoke-logged and crews then had to ventilate the property using positive pressure fans.

No one is reported to have been injured in the incident.
