Former Canterbury and Whitstable MP Sir Julian Brazier could be made a peer as the Prime Minister is widely expected to confirm nominations.

According to national reports the Tory stalwart and arch brexiteer could join nine other Conservatives in the upper chamber including heavyweights Sir Eric Pickles and Peter Lilley.

According to the Guardian Theresa May wishes to strengthen her position in the House of Lords after a suffering a string of defeats over Brexit.

Mr Brazier lost his seat to Labour's Rosie Duffield after 30 years following last June's snap vote but has voiced his desire to remain politically active.

Rumours of his ennoblement first circulated in January but he was quick to deny any knowledge telling KentOnline "I know nothing about this. If it were true it would be complete news to me.”

The long-serving politician also confirmed in January that he would not stand at the next general election.

KentOnline has approached Mr Brazier for comment.
