A290 Pean Hill, Blean, near Canterbury, to shut for up to five days for gas mains repairs

Repairs to a gas main which start tomorrow morning, could result in the closure of a busy road between Canterbury and Whitstable for up to five days.

The work is in Pean Hill at Blean, north of the junction with Fox's Cross Road, and diversion routes will be signposted.

A SGN spokesman said: "To ensure everyone’s safety, the road will be closed to through traffic with access maintained for residents. A signed diversion will be in place for motorists.

"It is too early to say when our work will be completed but we’re aiming to finish our repairs as quickly as possible. We thank local residents and motorists for their patience during this emergency work."

As a result of the closure, Stagecoach says its bus services will have to be re-routed.

The company will be unable to serve the A290 between Long Reach, Whitstable and Rough Common Turning, Canterbury, with its regular buses but will be operating an hourly shuttle from Tyler Hill Road, Blean

Four services will operate from Long Reach, Whitstable, via the A299, A2 and Rough Common Road, resuming normal route at Rough Common turning.
