Wildwood at Herne opens new wolf enclosure with viewing platform

A pair of young wolves will be the star attraction at the official opening of an enlarged enclosure at Wildwood this weekend.

The facility, which includes a new panoramic viewing platform, has been created at the animal park in Herne Common as a new home for European wolves Nuna and Odin.

It is hoped they will breed to create a new family after the previous pack gradually died of old age.

Two-year-olds Nuna and Odin came to Kent from Switzerland and Sweden last year and have been through a carefully monitored bonding process.

Keepers say they are now inseparable and hopes are high they will produce cubs and create a new pack.

Spokesman Dan Farrow said: “The old enclosure is now 50% bigger and the unique two-level platform will allow visitors to venture into the heart of the wolves’ lair.

“Our team has created a magnificent new home for our wolves.

“Our vision is for people to immerse themselves inside the wolves’ woodland world.”

The attraction is due to be officially opened by Herne Bay MP Sir Roger Gale and Lady Gale - both animal welfare supporters - at 12.30pm on Sunday.
