Eclipse tweets in east Kent dominated by pictures of grey skies as people make light of non-event

It was supposed to be a mesmerising phenomenon, the likes of which won't be seen again for decades.

But any chance of catching sight of a near-total eclipse were firmly kicked into touch by a mass of grey clouds looming large over the east Kent coast.

In typically-British style, hundreds of people across the Canterbury district and Faversham took to twitter to make light of the non-event....

Camera phones were at the ready to capture the moment the moon passed across the sun, but even an instagram eclipse filter would have failed to break through the east Kent clouds.

Others chose not to dwell on the lack of an eclipse, instead choosing to make their own.

And the, erm, somewhat careful precautions taken to avoid the sun's glare proved unnecessary for some eclipse gazers.

So, that was the eclipse.
