Elderly shopper reports bank card stolen at Tesco in Whitstable after man pesters her at the checkout

Police are looking to speak to an eastern European man after an 84-year-old woman reported her bank card stolen after shopping at Tesco.

Investigators released CCTV images of a man they would like to question following the alleged theft on Friday, August 9 at 1pm.

The pensioner was shopping at the Millstrood Road supermarket when she noticed a man uncomfortably close to her at the checkout.

The man offered to lift her bag onto her trolley and then claimed she had dropped a £5 note before attempting to open her purse.

She told him to go away and described the man as acting like a pest before he left and walked towards the Thanet Way.

The woman later realised her bank card was missing. It was used at 1.12pm at the Barclays Bank cash machine in Whitstable.

The man is described as being eastern European, 5ft 6in tall with short dark hair and of stocky build. He was wearing a navy blue suit, white shirt and a tie.

Anyone who can identify the man in the images or has any information is asked to contact PC Collette Todd on 01227 744779.
