Faversham Station will be getting improvements and an upgrade

By Katie Alston

Improvements to Faversham station have been pledged as part of a multi-million pound Network Rail scheme to improve track and signalling across east Kent and prepare the way for high speed trains.
The work will include installation of longer platforms and new lifts to improve access between platforms, especially for disabled passengers.
The signalling upgrade will see 1950s mechanical signalling replaced with a computerised system, designed to increase line speeds.
Work on improving the station’s appearance has already started.
The station buildings, canopies and subway are all scheduled for a lick of paint.
The majority of the work will start in September and is due to be finished by December.
Andrew Munden, Network Rail’s route director for Kent, said: “These improvements will help improve the overall travelling experience for passengers to and from Faversham.
“The changes are designed to improve the reliability, speed and flexibility of the trains.
“In the longer term, they will also bring significant performance benefits for passengers who use the railway between Ramsgate and Rochester."
