A Kent pub boasts the best roast in the south - and could be crowned the top in the country.

The Granville in Canterbury has been announced as the regional winner for south England in the Best British Roast Dinner competition.

The pub impressed a judging panel led by food critic Charles Campion with its tender joints of pork, roast beef and lamb, all slow cooked and served with local produce.

It will now go up against four other pubs across the county to be crowned the national winner on Sunday.

Each will be visited by a team of mystery diners to decide which of them cuts the mustard.

Chris Brown, channel trade marketing manager at Unilever Food Solutions, said: "In five years of running this competition, we've never seen so many delicious entries.

"The Granville can be extremely proud of winning the regional title – and its regulars can be proud to say they their local boasts one of the best pub roasts in the country.

"I'm sure they'll join us in wishing The Granville the best of luck as we approach the final stage of the competition."

The competition, run by Unilever, is part of British Roast Dinner Week this week.
