Crash causes serious delays on London-bound M2 on the Canterbury and Faversham border

Drivers are facing delays of up to an hour after a five-car crash.

Traffic is snarled up after the accident on the London-bound carriageway at the junction of the M2 and the A299 Thanet Way at Brenley Corner near Faversham.

The road has now fully reopened but the Highways Agency says traffic is still slow moving.

Police are appealing for information following the crash.

Police spokesman Glenn Pearson said: "We were called at 11.55am today to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on the A2 at Brenley Corner, near Faversham.

"It was reported a blue Nissan pick-up, a white Nissan Qashqai, a black Honda CRV, a red Peugeot 306 and a black Peugeot 107, were all involved in a collision on the London-bound carriageway of the A2.

"Minor injuries were reported and one person was taken to hospital. The road was fully open just before 2pm."

Motorists in this part of the county were already expecting delays after the Highways Agency closed the coastbound carriageway of the M2 from Brenley Corner and Wincheap in Canterbury at 8pm on Friday night for resurfacing work.

That carriageway is not due to reopen until 6am on Monday morning.

Those heading for Dover are being sent on a 40-mile diversion.
