A 62-year-old man was accused today of killing former chamber of commerce president and grandfather-of-three Mike Hill.

Keen motorcyclist rider Mr Hill, 60, died in a crash in Graveney Road, Faversham, on September 22.

Today, John Martin Roche Peto, of Wheatsheaf Close, Boughton-under-Blean, was charged with causing death by careless driving.

He is due to appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on February 28.

Mr Hill was well-known in Faversham and for many years was president of the town's business group.

He was also a member of the Friends of Faversham Creek, Save Abbey Farm, the Faversham Club and the Faversham Society.

Speaking after his death, his widow Ann Hill said his devastated family were still trying to come to terms with their loss.

She described her husband as a "devoted family man who loved to socialise".

She said: "He was very well known in the town and loved a cause, but he was also very much a family man.

"He also loved motorbikes and the freedom they gave him. There is some comfort in the fact that he died doing something he loved."
