A man had to be pulled from a drain after diving into it headfirst because he thought he saw a five pound note.

But he was left red-faced after discovering the money was in fact the foil from a Kit Kat wrapper.

The hapless chap clambered into the sewer in Hazebrouck Road, Faversham.

Two passing window cleaners had to pull him from the drain because his arm got stuck.

One rescuer, 22-year-old Gary Cooper of South Road, Herne Bay, said: "When he said he thought he'd seen a fiver I couldn't stop laughing. I looked down and could clearly see it was the inside of a Kit Kat wrapper.

"He said he'd lost his job three days before and was skint, so I offered him a couple of quid. I don’t know whether he was embarrassed or not - but he wouldn't take it."
