Whitstable cyclist who died in fall from bicycle in Virginia Road named by Kent Police as Lennie Stevens

A man who died after mysteriously falling from his bicycle has today been named as Lennie Stevens.

The 69-year-old was cycling along Virginia Road, Whitstable, to meet friends when he fell from his bike at 9.50am on Tuesday in Virginia Road.

Police have yet to discover why or how he fell.

An air ambulance was called and landed in a field off Clover Rise, but paramedics were unable to save Mr Stevens, who lived in the town.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Police spoke to other cyclists in the area and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen Mr Stevens fall.

DC David Holmes said: "We currently have no witnesses who can identify exactly how or why Mr Stevens has come off his bicycle and would urge anyone who saw this, or him, just prior to contact us."

The road was closed for about four hours while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out an investigation.
