02 signal issues affect thousands of mobile phone users across Kent

O2 has apologised after thousands of mobile phone users across Kent were left frustrated by signal problems.

The network operator says service has now "returned to normal" after a fault left people unable to make calls, send texts or use the internet for more than six hours.

Among the areas affected were Canterbury, Herne Bay, Maidstone, Sittingbourne and Faversham - as well as other parts of the country.

An O2 spokesman said: "Further to our previous messages where some customers experienced some problems accessing our network, we can confirm that service returned to normal at 23.35 hrs yesterday.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to those customers affected and we will now begin a full investigation to identify the root cause."

Yesterday, O2 said it was aware of "isolated instances" of intermittent service and was investigating the situation.

Sam Walker, 31, was among the thousands of phone users on the network experiencing problems.

He said: "I've not had signal for about four hours and I need to make some important calls.

"I can't even send a text or go on the internet. It's so frustrating.

"O2 really need to pull their socks up. I pay for a monthly contract and the very least you expect to get is some phone signal."

Karen-Marie Fysh wrote on KentOnline's Facebook page: "It's ridiculous!

"No signal now for 4+ hours and I'm 38 weeks pregnant - lets hope we don't need our phones tonight in an emergency."

The company responded to complaints on Twitter by advising people to reset their device, and visit its support page if problems persisted.
