Five people were injured after a series of accidents on the A2 at Thanington on Wednesday morning.

A collision between a coach and two other vehicles just before 8.30am partially blocked the coastbound carriageway at the A28 Thanington Road junction at Wincheap.

Children travelling on the coach were not injured and were transferred to another vehicle before being taken to safety.

A second collision involving two cars then took place in the backlog of traffic, before a van and two other cars also collided soon after.

A rolling road block was put in place following reports of a petrol spillage from one of the vehicles.

Motorists faced delays up to 90 minutes while the vehicles were recovered. Repairs were also carried out to the road surface and a gritter attended to clear the fuel spillage.

The road was eventually reopened around midday.
