A mother from Canterbury whose husband and brother were jailed for a brutal assault took to Facebook to say they should have killed their victim.

Raging Kerry Geater, 37, had hours earlier seen the pair sent down for 13 years after they broke into a house in Herne and battered the man who was involved in a love triangle which tore friends apart.

Canterbury Magistrates Court heard that Geater saw the victim of the assault, Nathan Carey, and his brother Dean, in a van on Tourtel Road on the afternoon of March 25 and overtook it in her black BMW, cutting them up on the Military Road roundabout.

Geater, who had been driving to the nursery at Kingsmead, then stopped her car in front so she could get out and confront the Carey brothers.

Prosecutor Julie Farbrace said: “Earlier she had been swearing and gesturing at them.

“At one point she pulled alongside the van and saying ‘I’m going to do you’ before braking hard in Military Road, bringing the rest of the traffic to a standstill.

“She got out and was kicking the van.”

The day before, Geater’s husband Deny, 38, and her brother David Capper, 35, had been jailed for bursting into Nathan Carey’s home in Ruskin’s View at 3am armed with a baseball bat and a machete.

Mr Carey had started dating Capper’s estranged wife Joanne and the pair were seeking revenge.

They rained blows upon Mr Carey and left him bloodied and terrified. Dean Carey, who shares a house with his brother, was unhurt.

A jury at Canterbury Crown Court convicted them at trial and they were sentenced on March 24.

That night Kerry Geater, who lives in East Street off the Sturry Road, took to Facebook to say: “They should have killed the ****s.”

She was arrested after the incident in Military Road and at court admitted one count of witness intimidation while a charge of careless driving was dropped.

The court heard she has previous convictions for battery and assaulting a police officer.

Ian Bond, defending, said a person giving evidence remains a witness for two years after a trial.

“This was not a case of someone trying to nobble a witness during a trial or pre-trial,” he said.

“She had just seen them sentenced and then came across Dean and Nathan Carey by chance. Dean had been calling her a slag and a slut and she became extremely upset.

“There was verbal abuse and provocation and there has been a lot of ill feeling in the area.

“This was a chance encounter and she lost her cool.”

Magistrates gave Geater a 28-day suspended prison sentence. She must also pay an £80 surcharge and £85 costs.

Investigating officer PC Hannah Parker said: "Witness intimidation is a serious offence and I hope this makes others think twice before committing a similar crime in an effort to change the course of justice."
