A man has appeared in court after a policeman was hit by a car during a dramatic high-speed chase.

Heath Patrick Vosper is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent after the officer was injured in Minster in Thanet on Tuesday.

The homeless 42-year-old is also accused of dangerous driving and stealing three TVs from a shop in Broadstairs earlier that day.

He was remanded in custody at Dover Magistrates' Court today and is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on December 23.

Two others, who were also arrested in Herne Bay on Tuesday, appeared before magistrates today.

Heath Leonard Vosper, 21, of Abbot Road, Harwich, Essex, is charged with stealing three TVs from a shop in Broadstairs and perfume worth £600 from a shop in Canterbury.

He was remanded in custody, while a 16-year-old from Essex charged with stealing TVs in Broadstairs was released on bail.

They will appear at crown court at a later date.

The police officer, who suffered head, neck and back injuries, is now recovering at home after being released from hospital.

He was knocked down near the McDonald's fast food restaurant while as many as 13 patrol cars, a dog unit and helicopter were involved in the pursuit, which started in Broadstairs and ended on a quiet housing estate in Herne Bay.

Officers were alerted at just before 11am after three televisions were stolen from Staples on the East Kent Retail Park, in Broadstairs.
