Police put extra patrols in Newton Road, Whitstable after mum reports white van follows her son

10 February 2014
by Jamie Bullen

A worried mum phoned police today after a white van followed her son on his way to school.

She alerted officers to a man driving a van around Newton Road at 8.12am, claiming her son saw the van slow down before driving off.

Police are warning against distraction thefts

She says her son saw the van again before it drove off, leading police to search the area.

At no time did the driver speak to the boy.

Police spokesman Lisa Humphrys said extra patrols would be out in force following the incident.

She said: "We don't have a number plate and there's no CCTV in the area.

"However, we will put on an extra patrol in the area and cross check to see if there have been any similar incidents reported to us but it doesn't seem that there have been."
