Firefighters spent 40 minutes tackling the blaze before leaving the scene at 11.10pm.

Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman Alan Bradford says police were also called as crews suspected the fire may have been started maliciously.

Police spokesman Jane Walker confirmed officers had arrested a 39-year-old man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of damaging two beach huts.

He remains in custody.
