Police helicopter used in search for missing Canterbury man

A police helicopter was used on Wednesday and Thursday evenings last week to help search for a missing Canterbury man.

Family and friends of the 48-year-old, who has not been named, grew concerned for his safety and became worried he may hurt himself as he suffers from depression. He was believed to be hiding in woodland areas on the outskirts of the city and eventually returned home safe and well last Friday afternoon.

Residents in Harbledown reported being woken up by the sound of helicopter blades around 11pm on Wednesday. The night after, the same helicopter was spotted circling above both railway lines close to Whitehall Road and the River Stour, between 7.45pm and 8.45pm. A search was being used to help with investigations.

Police spokesperson Jo Robertson confirmed the man is now in the care of the mental health team.
