Suspected cable thieves spark hunt by British Transport Police on tracks in Herne Bay

Police swooped on a railway bridge in Herne Bay following reports cable thieves were spotted on the tracks.

As many as five patrol cars and a security van were spotted at the crossing in Canterbury Road after a 999 call was made shortly before 6.30pm yesterday evening.

British Transport Police were first on the scene and called in colleagues from Kent Police to help search for the offenders.

But following checks in the area, it appeared no cables had been stolen and no people were found.

A patrol car was still at the scene at 8pm.
