Power cut to 89 homes in Bogshole Lane, Broomfield, after an electricity board caught fire

Scores of homes were left without power this morning after an electrical fire.

UK Power Network cut off 89 homes in the area around Bogshole Lane, Broomfield, after an electricity board caught fire in a house on the street at about 9.30am.

Crews from Whitstable and Herne Bay dealt with the blaze in the utility room of the home using dry-powder extinguishers.

The house was occupied at the time of the fire but no one was injured.

Engineers then had to cut electricity from 10.50am to 12.13pm to carry out essential works.

UK Power Network spokesperson Michelle Dorrell said: “We understand how difficult it can be without power and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by this incident.”
