Manchester terror attack: Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury steps up security

Security has been stepped up at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury following the Manchester terror attack in which 22 were killed at the MEN.

Theatre-goers are being advised not to bring big bags to the venue, with small handbags being searched.

Spokesman Sarah Munday said the measures were in response to the national threat level being increased to ‘critical’.

Theatres and other venues where there are large, confined gatherings of people are thought to be especially vulnerable.

Ms Munday said the same measures were being implemented at most venues across the country on the advice of security services.

She said: “We are asking theatre-goers to leave all bags at home, as they will not be permitted to take them into the auditorium. Small handbags will be acceptable, but may be searched.

“We are also asking people to arrive earlier than normal, to allow checks to take place."

It comes as armed police patrols were stepped up across the county.
