Taxi driver urged to come forward following alleged rape in Downs Road, Canterbury

A taxi driver is being urged to come forward in a bid to help with a rape investigation.

Police believe the cabbie may hold vital information into reports that a woman was raped at a house in Downs Road, Canterbury.

Officers say there is no suggestion the driver of a silver taxi played a role in the incident on Sunday, June 3.

They want the cab driver who took three people from Canterbury West Station to Downs Road at about 11.30pm on Saturday, June 2 to help.

Two men, one aged 18 from the city and the other aged 19 from London, were arrested on suspicion of rape.

They remain under investigation and have been released on bail until August 30.

Investigating officer PC Ali Knott said: "There is no suggestion the taxi driver has done anything wrong but he or she may have seen or heard something during the fare that could assist us with our enquiries.

"Any information, however seemingly insignificant, could be vital. We are urging the driver to get in touch as soon as possible."
