A man has appeared in court accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of a dog walker who was knocked down on a zebra crossing.

Michael Jayes, 19, is charged with killing John Hobson while driving his Honda XR125 motorcycle on Whitstable Road, near the recreation ground in Faversham, on December 7 last year.

Mr Hobson, 61, of Abbey Street, Faversham, was taken to the Royal London Hospital with head injuries and later died at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford on January 15.

Jayes, of Glebe Cottage, Eastling Road, Eastling, did not enter a plea.

Dressed in jeans and a hooded top, he spoke only to confirm his name and address.

The court passed on the case to Maidstone Crown Court, where Jayes will appear on August 30.
