KENT Police are appealing for witnesses after a van veered across the carriageway on the A2 and collided with trees, killing the driver.

The tragedy happened at around 5pm on Wednesday on the London-bound carriageway at Wincheap, Canterbury.

Police say the driver of the white Mercedes Sprinter van, a man aged 35, died at the scene. He has not yet been named. No other vehicle was involved.

The London-bound carriageway from Bridge to Harbledown was closed from around 5.30pm to 9.20pm.
