Canterbury: Travellers move onto Tannery Field near Toddler's Cove

A group of travellers that set up camp near a children's play park in Canterbury has been moved on.

Council officials were alerted early this morning after about 10 vehicles moved on to the Tannery Field, close to the Toddler's Cove play area.

It is believed the travellers forced a gate open to get on to the land, but they left the site this morning.

Canterbury City Council spokesman Rob Davies said: "Thanks to swift action by our enforcement officers, a group of travellers on Tannery Field has been moved on this morning.

"We have staff on duty at some other key sites in the district to prevent entry and our CCTV team is also monitoring the situation.

"Serco will be carrying out any cleaning work that may be required.
