A291: Delays after tree hits car between Herne Bay and Canterbury

A man has been taken to hospital after a tree fell on his car in strong winds.

The man was trapped inside his vehicle after it was hit on the A291 Canterbury Road, which was blocked in both directions.

It happened this morning between Curtis Wood Road and Albion Lane.

Firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle to free the man, who was then passed on to South East Coast Ambulance Service.

A tree surgeon also attended, to remove the tree.

The road is now clear.

Kent Fire and Rescue's delivery manager for community safety, prevention and protection Robert Groombridge said: "With heavy rain and strong winds set to continue throughout the day, we are urging motorists to take extra care on the roads, check your route before setting off and make sure to drive to the weather conditions.

"Please make sure you have your lights on and you keep your speed down."

Meanwhile, fallen trees are causing disruption in other areas of the county.

The A260 near the Jackdaw Inn in Barham remains blocked in both directions.

The A262 High Street in Biddenden was blocked in both directions between A274 North Street and High Halden Road but has since been cleared.
