Whitstable's Sian Gordon (pictured) has a double cause for celebration.

The 21-year-old former Simon Langton Girls School pupil recently graduated in English Literature from the University of Exeter and this week received confirmation she has been selected as a member of the England squad for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

"I am chuffed to bits and I can’t really believe it," she said.

"Although I have been a member of the England senior team for the past year, it’s still hard to take in that I will be going to the Commonwealth Games."

Sian started bowling several years ago with the Oyster Club but has been playing for Torquay United BC while at university. During the winter indoor season she completed a double by winning the national singles and fours titles.

She will be linking up with the rest of the England Commonwealth Games squad for a training session in Norwich later this month.

Gordon will be playing for Swale BC this winter, and next year will be bowling outdoors for Milton Regis BC.
