Mass police search in Whitstable woods for troubled man

Police are searching Clowes Wood in Whitstable this afternoon for a troubled man who is understood to be missing.

Eight police cars and a dog van have been spotted trawling the woodland off Radfall Road as part of the search.

Members of the Kent Search and Rescue team have also joined the hunt in the woods, which is well known for being a popular dog walking area.

Police spokesman Andy Saunders says they are looking for the man because of concerns over his welfare.

No more information is being released at this stage.

Whitstable Gazette photographer Chris Davey says he spotted the police while driving through Chestfield.

He said: "I've seen eight police cars, the search and rescue team and a policeman on his bicycle. A lot of them are stationed in the car park."
