Heino Kuhn aiming to fulfill promise of winning trophies with Kent

He may have only been here for a few months but Canterbury is already feeling like home for Heino Kuhn.

The South African signed on a two-year Kolpak deal before the start of the season and has hit the ground running.

He came with the ambition of winning trophies with Kent and is one game away from fulfilling that promise.

Kuhn said: “I love it. It’s such a beautiful place here with so much history and I feel at home here. I feel like I’ve been here for years and I do intend to stay here for longer.

“I always play for trophies so it’s a good feeling to start at a new club here in England and get into a final.

“Getting someone into a final and not winning it is another thing. So come Saturday I hope to get one of those goals done, which is winning a trophy and that will be a good start.”

The 34-year-old is the leading run-scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup and has scored four centuries in his last five innings.

If he scores another hundred in the final against Hampshire on Saturday he will tie the List A record of five centuries in six matches with compatriot Alviro Petersen.

Listen to the interview with Heino Kuhn in this week's Kent Cricket Podcast:

Kuhn said: “It’s a very good feeling to be in form like that and it’s something you don’t take for granted.

“You enjoy every run because it can so quickly disappear and come Saturday I will keep doing what I’ve been doing and hopefully it will be a fifth.

“I only get aware of these stats when people tell me.

“I’m just here to win trophies and if that is to at some stage when you are at 90 and need to slog a couple and not play for 100 then I’m happy to do that as long as I get us in the position.

“I’m not a stats guy but when people tell me there’s a good one on the way then I do want to get it.”

Kuhn has won dozens of domestic trophies with the Titans in South Africa and will be using that experience to help his younger teammates to cope with the pressure.

He added: “It’s easy to say it’s just another game but I will tell them to soak it up as quickly as possible.

“Get on the pitch and soak up all the attention up and as soon as the game starts, soak it up a bit more and get it out of your system so you can enjoy the game.”
