Jamie Turner is on his way back after being sidelined for a year with an ankle injury and Herne Bay boss Sam Denly is delighted.

The young striker, twin brother of defender Michael and top scorer two seasons ago, has been named on the bench in the last couple of games.

Denly said: “He’s getting there but we won’t rush things and are nursing him back having been out for so long.

“His attitude has been first class despite the long lay-off and he hasn’t missed a game, home or away in all that time. It’s great for me and the club.”

Ten points out of a possible 12 have lifted Bay back into the
top-eight and chasing the final Ryman League, Division 1 South play-off spot, together with in-form rivals Whitstable and Whyteleafe.

Joe Nelder put Bay in front at Walton & Hersham on Tuesday, with James Cottee’s 75th-minute equaliser earning the Surrey club a 1-1 draw.

Denly had mixed feelings about the result, saying: “It was a good point and performance but a poor goal for us to concede.

"The team have been outstanding in the last few games and I couldn’t have asked for more from the lads.

"We have tinkered with the formation and the way certain personnel are involved in it and it’s working.”
