Confidence levels are soaring at Herne Bay ahead of this weekend’s Bank Holiday derby double-header.

Bay host Faversham on Saturday before making the short trip along the Thanet Way for a clash with Whitstable on Monday.

And manager Sam Denly believes Tuesday’s morale-boosting win over Folkestone – Bay’s first in Ryman League Division 1 South this season – has set them up perfectly.

He said: “If we were going into these games after another draw or defeat, it would be hard. But we were confident anyway and we now go into the Faversham game even more confident.

“It’s a big derby, it should be a big crowd and those things are positive.

“We’ve been playing good football, so we knew that first win was just around the corner.

“It was becoming a bit of a mental thing but I was confident it was always going to come.

“Now we’ve got two massive games against Faversham and Whitstable.”

If the form guide is anything to go by, Saturday’s game should be entertaining.

Faversham’s first four games have thrown up 22 goals and they were impressive 3-2 winners at Ramsgate on Tuesday night.

“It’s another exciting one,” Denly said. “We’re creating lots of chances and Faversham are scoring goals.

“They’re a big, strong side. It will be a volatile game, it’s a local derby and I expect goals.

“It’ll be a good one for the neutral to watch.”

Joe Kennett, Sam Hasler, Steven Lloyd, Jamie O’Connell and James Turner are all injury doubts, with Lloyd a particular concern.
