Canterbury Ladies beat Buckingham and Holcombe draw with Leicester in Investec National Premier Division while Canterbury's men lose to Cannock

Canterbury climbed to second in Investec National Premier Division after seeing-off Buckingham 2-0 at Polo Farm on Saturday thanks to goals from dynamic duo Dirkie Chamberlain and Susannah Townsend.

In the second game of a double-header at the club, with funds raised for Breat Cancer Awareness, South African international Chamberlain struck after just seven minutes, converting a penalty corner against the newly-promoted visitors.

GB and England ace Townsend then fired in a superb solo goal to make it two just before the hour, lashing a reverse stick shot high into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

The city club sit second, two points adrift of leaders Surbiton, who came from behind to win at Clifton, who slip to third.

Holcombe remain unbeaten in fourth after Laura Unsworth scored a last-gasp equaliser for them in their 2-2 draw with Leicester.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead inside five minutes thanks to goals from Lauren Turner and Vanessa Hawkins, but the Medway side battled back, with Leisa Randall halving the deficit seven minutes before the break.

Chances came and went in the second half before GB ace Unsworth pounced in the dying seconds to ensure a point which kept Holcs within four points of top-spot.

Canterbury’s men suffered a narrow home defeat against fellow-strugglers Cannock in NOW: Pensions National Premier Division on Saturday.

The game remained goalless until just before the hour when Nick Bandurak converted a penalty corner to put the visitors ahead.

Hardeep Jawanda made the game safe four minutes from time with Cannock’s second, though there was still time for Kwan Browne to fire in a penalty corner to reduce the deficit in the dying seconds.

The city club lie second-bottom after a fourth defeat in five, two points ahead of Brooklands MU but still only four points behind fourth-placed Hampstead & Westminster.
