Canterbury Rugby Club head coach Andy Pratt says it is about time his side won a National 2 South match in Cornwall

Andy Pratt wants to end Canterbury Rugby Club’s West Country jinx once and for all this weekend on their last long away trip of the season.

The city club have never won in Cornwall but make their second trip of the National 2 South campaign to the Duchy to face Launceston on Saturday, in high spirits after a convincing display in their home win over Southend on Saturday.

Canterbury have also made two long trips to Bristol and another to Gloucestershire in the opening half of the season – their record is four losses and a draw from the five trips in total – but head coach Pratt revealed he was glad they could concentrate on games in the South East after Saturday.

He said: “We’ve still not won in Cornwall but we have got to change that at some point – we need to improve our mentality to do it.

It’s a real target for us to to get it off our backs and we are capable of doing it. It’s just a case of putting it all together on the day.

“The fixture list is a little weird as this is our last West Country trip of the season and all our away games from now on are relatively close by.”

Pratt hopes to include new signing Adam Cathcart in his squad if a visa problem for the New Zealander is resolved this week. There is, however, a fitness doubt over centre Alex Veale.
