Adam Riley says his seven-wicket showing against Hampshire is the highlight of his career so far.

The 21-year-old spinner was the hero for Kent as they dismissed their
hosts for 455 in the LV= County Championship Division 2 clash at the
Ageas Bowl in Southampton, claiming 7-150 from a gruelling 43.4 overs.

The haul was equal to a quarter of his previous total of victims in a
16-match career, which began when he broke through early in the 2011
season.

The fixture was also memorable for his highest score with the
bat, a gutsy 21 not out with the game on the line in the final hour of
day four.

Riley admitted: “It was good fun to bowl so many overs. I think it’s
the first time in a couple of years that I have bowled 45-odd overs.
“The pitch was pretty flat and we tried to build pressure, though
there was a short boundary on one side.

"we all bowled well as a unit. I have never taken seven wickets in an innings before so it was most definitely the high point of my career so far.”

Riley added: “The aim now is to try and improve on it. With Tredders away with England, I wanted to take the opportunity to show what I can do and hopefully I have done that and it might help in terms of getting myself into consideration as a second spinner in the second half of the season when the pitches tend to dry out.”

Riley’s career-best score with the bat came when Kent were 92 runs
behind with two wickets remaining and 22 overs left.

He revealed: “When Matt Coles got out, the run chase had kind of
stuttered and (head coach) Jimmy Adams just told me to go out and bat and try to be
there at the end.”

He added: “The game ranks at the top of the pile for me. I will
remember it for a long time.”
