Whitstable Town manager Nicky Southall could not hide his excitement for the rest of the season after seeing a side he’s built in his own image finally click.

The Oystermen made light work of Sittingbourne in the FA Trophy on Saturday to banish the memory of seeing three players sent-off in a Kent Senior Cup win over Herne Bay four days earlier.

Southall said: “I was delighted with the reaction after Tuesday night.

“We played some great stuff, it was the manner in which I expect us to play and the squad seems to be adjusting to how I want us to play.

“This is the most exciting squad Whitstable Town has had for many years.

“I am genuinely excited. This is the team and the squad that I put together. There is a genuine buzz about the place at the minute.

“That’s back-to-back wins. All right, I know it’s not in league games but we’ll be going out to try and make it three against Folkestone on Saturday and see where it takes us.”

“As far as I’m concerned, they are in a false position. I watched them at Hastings this week and they lost 3-0 but they had chances and it could have been different."

John Guest (groin) came off at Sittingbourne and could miss out, with Dan Wells set to deputise, while former Gillingham defender Ian Cox is nearing fitness after a calf strain.
