Kent Cricket spinner James Tredwell omitted from England side for second Test against West Indies in Grenada

Despite impressing in his second Test cap, five years after his first, James Tredwell was omitted from the England side to face the West Indies in Grenada on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was included in the side which drew the opening Test of the three-match tour in Antigua last week but Moeen Ali, who rejoined the squad on Saturday after an abdominal injury sustained at the World Cup in Australia, has been recalled to the spinners role, with skipper Alastair Cook admitting 'it's a tough call on Tredders, who never lets anyone down."

Tredwell finished with 4-47 as the hosts were dismissed for 295, 104 behind England’s first innings total, to which the New Romney ace contributed just eight after being employed as a nightwatchman.

Tredwell did however drop Jermaine Blackwood off the bowling of Ben Stokes early-on, with the local star going on to make an unbeaten 112 which ultimately thwarted England’s bid to secure victory on the final day.

In the second innings England had posted 333-7dec to leave the hosts with a victory target of 438, and though Tredwell did account for Devon Smith during his 40 overs, he finished with 1-95 and could not find a breakthrough as the hosts battled to reach 350-7 at the close.

Tredwell’s only previous cap came in Dhaka in March 2010 as he claimed six wickets in England’s nine wicket win over Bangladesh.
