Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says his players would relish meeting Whitstable Town in the Ryman League Division 1 South play-offs

Ray Turner believes his players would relish the chance to play Whitstable again this season after the Oystermen secured a surprise victory at Salters Lane on Saturday.

The Lilywhites saw their six-match winning streak ended by the 3-1 loss in a game which also saw the home side’s Dean Grant and Dave Botterill sent-off.

The defeat cost Faversham the chance of top-spot in Ryman League, Division 1 South but Turner says there is still plenty for his side to play for.

The Town boss said: “It’s disappointing to have lost and for the run to be ended but despite how (Whitstable) celebrated, it’s only one game and we are still 23 points ahead of them.

“It was not a bad performance. We controlled the game and it was Dean Grant’s sending-off which was the pivotal moment.

“He got a booking for simulation but you can watch it back and clearly see he’s not trying to con a penalty out of the referee.

“They came for a point but they were clinical and ended up with all three.
“Sometimes it’s just not your day but it might be that we get to play them again this season in a play-off game and I am sure my players would be keen on that.”

Saturday sees Town travel to struggling Hythe – whom Faversham beat in the play-off semi-final two years ago – but Turner says he won’t be taking anything for granted even though Tim Dixon’s men are fifth-bottom and just two points clear of the drop-zone.

He said: “I’d have expected them to be a lot higher with the players they have had at their disposal but they’re going to be fighting down there and we expect them to be similar to Whitstable in terms of their attitude to the game."
