The FIA World Rallycross Championship is set to return to Lydden Hill next year, retaining its regular slot over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

The championship will be back at the Canterbury track on May 22-24 – subject to confirmation of the calendar by World Motor Sport Council the FIA – and will form round three of the 12 event season.

This year’s meeting was hailed a success, with more than 10,000 spectators watching the action on Sunday. After leaving Lydden, the championship will criss-cross the globe, taking in Canada, Turkey and Argentina as part of its calendar.

Martin Anayi, World RX managing director, said: “After a hugely successful inaugural season in World RX, we have received a steady flow of interest from venues across the globe which we have considered carefully over the past few months.

“We’re conscious that we wanted to keep costs to a minimum and grow our championship gradually so made the decision to retain 12 key events.”

The Supercar class will headline the action, with the RX Lites Cup and Touring Car championship providing support races.

Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud won this year’s Lydden event in his Ford Fiesta, beating Audi pilot Robin Larsson and former British Touring Car champion Andrew Jordan.
