Three phantoms haunted the Orchard Theatre in Dartford with renditions from classics including Spamalot, Kiss me Kate and Wicked, to name just a few.

Singers Matthew Cammelle and Stephen John Davis have both played the Lead in the Phantom of the Opera, while the Earl Carpenter is currently starring in it’s 25th anniversary national tour.

In between their performances, over three nights at the end of May, the trio delighted the audience with comic anecdotes from past stage experiences.

But every Phantom needs his Christine, and opera star Rebecca Caine, who played the role in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original cast, made a few appearances singing alongside the trio.

The angel of music also originated the role of Cosette in the Cameron Mackintosh and RSC production of Les Misérables, and received huge applause for her performance of Diva’s Lament from Spamalot.

The first act finished with three other talented backing singers joining the foursome, for a mash-up of various songs from Les Misérables.

Seven strong voices filled the theatre and brought tears to the eyes of onlookers with versions of some of the musical’s most famous songs, including Do You Hear the People Sing?, A Heart Full of Love and Valjean’s Confession.

Interspersed with the music was a bit of light comedy with the male backing singer being repeatedly shunned by the three Phantoms.

But after one too many brush-offs the crowd got behind the singer and he managed a bit of solo singing to the cheers of the crowd, before being booted back off the stage by the big guns.

More songs from the likes of Wicked, The Scarlett Pimpernel and West Side Story built up to the Phantom of the Opera Finale.

Several of Lord Lloyd Webber’s hit songs were sung beautifully and powerfully by the Phantoms and the evening ended with the last fading notes of Music of the Night.

It was enough to wish I were somehow there again.
