A road closed for more than 12 hours following a fatal road smash is finally open again.

Both carriageways of the A2 between its junction with the M25 and the Dartford Heath turnoff, near Wilmington, were closed after a multi-vehicle crash at about 10.30am Monday.

One man was killed and several other people were injured in the crash, which involved several cars and a lorry.

Motorists endured severe delays throughout the day while police investigated, and were diverted through Dartford or via the A20 near Swanley.

Two lanes on the coast-bound stretch were re-opened at about 4.55pm - but traffic did not start flowing again on the London-bound side until about 10.45pm, still with just two lanes open.

Both sections are open as usual now.
