A man is continuing to fight for his life today after falling from a bridge onto the A2 near Dartford.

The 43-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after plunging onto the fast lane of the London-bound carriageway yesterday morning.

Kent Police said it was reported the man fell near the central reservation. Investigations were continuing into if he was hit by a vehicle.

The man was airlifted to King's College Hospital, in London, with head, leg and abdomen injuries.

He was today said to be in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital.

Officers were called to the London-bound carriageway, near the Wilmington turn-off, at just before 9am.

Both carriageways were closed while the air ambulance landed at about 9.30am.

Heavy queues built London-bound near the Darenth Interchange and the A2018 for Dartford Heath.

Police re-opened one lane London-bound to allow traffic to pass the scene at around 10.15am.

The coast-bound section, also blocked as a result of the incident, re-opened shortly before 10.30am.

The London-bound carriageway was fully re-opened by soon after 11am.

As well as the air ambulance, three land ambulances from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
