Emergency crews including the police and fire service were called.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free a man who was trapped in his car.

The road was blocked for over an hour after the accident, which happened at about 6.30pm, but restrictions were lifted at about 7.40pm.

An earlier accident at Danson added to the delays.

Traffic also queued on the opposite carriageway due to drivers slowing down to look at the crash scene.
